Our Honest Take on the Model 3

The Model 3 has the same soft Tesla factory clear coat as the Model Y — it swirls easily, shows orange peel on most cars, and struggles against Scarborough salt without protection. Sedan body shape means less surface area than the Y, so the overall package cost is typically lower.

The smaller glass roof on the Model 3 generates less cabin heat than the Y, but the black interior still bakes in summer. Ceramic tint on all four sides plus the rear glass is the standard recommendation. We see a lot of Model 3 owners who prioritized tint over coating and regretted it by year two — protect the paint first, tint second if budget forces a choice.

Our most common Model 3 package: single or two-stage paint correction (depending on swirl depth), 5-year ceramic coating, and full ceramic tint. For owners keeping the car 5+ years, we recommend stepping up to the multi-layer ceramic option for better long-term value.

Tesla Model 3 FAQs

How is Model 3 detailing different from Model Y?

+

The paint and coating process is identical — both cars have the same soft Tesla clear coat and benefit from the same correction and ceramic sequence. The main difference is surface area: the Model 3 is a sedan, so most paint correction and ceramic coating packages come in slightly lower than the Y. Tint is also less expensive due to smaller windows.

Does the Model 3 need paint correction before ceramic coating?

+

Almost always, yes. Even new Model 3s usually show some level of orange peel or light swirl marks. We assess each car under LED inspection lighting and recommend the right correction level — single-stage for minor marring, two-stage for visible swirls and oxidation.

What window tint setup do you recommend for a Model 3?

+

Ceramic film on all four side windows plus the rear glass, using the highest heat-rejection film that still meets Ontario VLT (visible light transmission) requirements for front sides. We walk through the legal limits before booking so you know exactly what the film will look like.

Is ceramic coating worth it on a used Model 3?

+

If the car is in good cosmetic shape and you plan to keep it more than two years, yes. Paint correction first to reset the finish, then ceramic to lock in the result and slow future wear. For older Model 3s with deep damage, we sometimes recommend a less aggressive approach to avoid thinning the clear coat too much.

How long does the full Model 3 package take?

+

Paint correction plus ceramic coating is typically 2 to 3 days including cure time. Window tint is a separate appointment, usually same-day. We schedule both around your availability and can store the car overnight in our controlled studio if needed.
